Link & Rationale

Rationale:

Designed to guide and inform, the iPad app aims to provide a customisable and self-driven exploratory experience of Te Papa, while taking careful consideration not to become a substitute for the first hand interaction with a display. Upon receiving a device, the user begins their experience on the “what to see” page, giving them an immediate overview to the museum and its content to provide interest and a starting point for their exploration. Through the tours menu, a user can easily navigate through various tour options and select the one that interests them. They can also create a tour based on their interests to provide a truly personalized experience.  As the user moves through the museum, a simple change in rotation allows the user to view nearby displays through the use of location aware augmented reality technologies. Thumbnail images appear located over the relative positions in the museum provoking further exploration of the space. Once near a pop up appears on the map allowing the user to engage with display specific information in their own time.
